Pocahontas

There are many legends and stories about Pocahontas. She was the daughter of the chief of her tribe. Because she was the daughter of the chief, the English called her a princess. She made friends with the white men and even fell in love.

Pocahontas was a real person although there are some things in the legends that were made up. There are other things we do not know and have to guess.

The story of Pocahontas is about other people too. Her father, Powhatan, Captain Smith, the Governor Sir Thomas, Captain Argyll and John Rolfe. This story looks at all the facts that were written down by the people who met Pocahontas and her people. It is the real story of the Indian Princess, not a fairytale.
